Dentures

Dentures are removable replacements for missing teeth and gums. Full dentures are given when all the teeth are missing and partial dentures are given when some of your natural teeth are still intact.

There are two types of complete dentures:

  • Conventional: Conventional dentures are created for you once all of your teeth have been removed and your gums have started to heal. If you decide to go with this option, your dentures will be ready between 8 and 12 weeks after your teeth have been removed.
  • Immediate: Immediate dentures are created in advance and are available as soon as your teeth are removed. The benefit to immediate dentures is that you won’t have to be without teeth during the healing process. The downside to immediate dentures is that your bones and gums will naturally shrink over time, especially during the healing process that will take place after your teeth have been removed. That means your dentures will require more adjustments over time in order to achieve a proper fit.

What Can I Expect After I Receive My Dentures?

It’s important to remember that new dentures may feel loose or even a little weird for the first few weeks. Keep in mind that the muscles in your tongue and cheeks will eventually learn to keep your dentures in place and you will get more comfortable putting them in and removing them.
