Teeth Cleaning

Receiving a dental cleaning and exam is a very important part of maintaining healthy teeth and gums. The American Dental Association recommends that you and your family come in for regular cleaning and exams every six months.

Most dental cleanings take between 20-30 minutes. They are important to removing plaque and tartar buildup, which can’t be completely and thoroughly removed without professional assistance. If these damaging substances are left on your teeth, they will eventually lead to gum disease and a variety of tooth problems.

Here’s what to expect during your dental cleaning:

  • Your mouth will be examined for swollen or bleeding gums, decay, tooth infections, sores or any other concerns the hygienist may find.
  • Scaling and root planing will be performed. This is the process of removing the tartar and plaque from all tooth surfaces using a variety of methods. The type of methods used depends on the amount of plaque and tartar.
  • Once the hygienist is finished with the initial cleaning, Dr. Nathan Cejka will then evaluate your mouth. This will include a cancer screening and a review of the teeth, gums, and any concerns you may have.
