Dental Sealants

A dental sealant is a liquid plastic coating applied to the surfaces of teeth in order to prevent tooth decay from damaging the teeth. The sealant bonds into the grooves of the teeth, forming a protective shield over the enamel. Many people think that sealants are just for kids. The protective nature of sealants is proven to be effective in adults as well, so talk to Dr. Cejka if you would like to prevent future cavities that could require much more extensive treatment.

Sealants are helpful because brushing and flossing can’t always get into all the small depressions and grooves of the back teeth. Sealants protect these vulnerable areas from damage and decay.

process of having a Dental sealant applied

  • The teeth will be thoroughly cleaned
  • Once they’ve been dried, an acid solution is applied - this helps the sealant bond to the teeth
  • The acid solution is rinsed off and the teeth are dried
  • Lastly, the sealant is then applied to the enamel where it bonds to the tooth and a special light helps it harden

Sealants can protect your teeth from decay for up to 10 years, but they will need to be checked for wearing and chipping at your regular exams.

To schedule an appointment with Front Range Smiles to receive sealants, please call our dental office in Parker, Colorado.
